Bom Dia! The Bazaruto Archipelago is, almost certainly, one of the loveliest areas of Southern Africa. The islands create kilometers of unspoilt beaches begging to be walked along and reefs to be snorkelled. They're surrounded by a warm sea reflecting a rainbow of blues, have the obligatory palm trees fringing the beaches and the laid-back, island atmosphere that should be soaked up with cocktails as the sun goes down. A relaxing beach holiday doesn't get much better than this. The area also offers great diving, some of the best game fishing in the world and is a playground for watersport enthusiasts. Narina Exelby, Getaway Magazine, February 2006 Ultra-white beaches, diving, good sea-food and game fishing are as synonymous with Mozambique as the annual migration is synonymous with Tanzania and Kenya and spices with Zanzibar. Add to this a lazy sunrise, a romantic sunset, a romantic dinner setting and most honeymoon couples will feel as if they have arrived right at heaven's doors. There's the mainland and then there's the islands. Mainland Mozambique is for the 4 x 4 enthusiast, with plenty of places along the coast where one can stop and while away a day or two. Place names like Ponto do Ouro, Malongane, Paindane rolls one the tongue like a good Cabernet, and there is plenty of reefs to dive. Do not throw away Maputo with several excellent hotels dotted throughout the capital, including the Polana Hotel - also known as the Grand Dame of Maputo and the only property in Mozambique administrated by the prestigious Serena Hotel Group. Yes, the islands are expensive. But if it is privacy you are after, and
that feeling that the place belongs to you and you alone, then hey, who
would not pay for it. The Islands forms part of two archipelagos; the
Bazaruto archipelago and the southern Quirimbas archipelago. |
